This month saw the publication of the fourth full Benchmarking report from the Mapping and Benchmarking Annex (see here). This study analyses the energy efficiency of residential laundry dryers with capacities between 4 kg and 10 kg of dry textiles and also looks at national/regional policies that influence efficiency.

The report brings together the performance data contained in the recently published mapping documents for Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, Switzerland, the UK and the USA.  It also includes additional publicly available data from France, Spain and the EU as a whole making a range of observations on the differences in performance of dryers in these countries.

There is also a series of associated issues to note for Policy Makers, including that long standing MEPS in North America have lead to a much reduced spread of performance but that averages are similar to those seen in the EU.  While MEPS have eliminated poor performers in North America, this shows that there is significant scope for improvement in all markets.

This benchmarking is one of a series of reports available via the Annex’s website matrix system along with the product definitions, individual country mapping documents and other supporting information.
